The Joys of Boys while Hosteling

I'm not a youth but I love staying at (youth) hostels.

Today's hostels are not just for the under 26 backpacker. You can often choose from a variety of room types (including privates or double) along with bunk beds in dorms. Some regular hotels even offer 'hostel' type rooms - such as the Gershwin in New York City.Clearly, some people think these budget accommodations / dorm-type rooms and shared baths should be called 'hostile' - like QueerAngel said - it can be uncomfortable Comfort is not the only reason to stay somewhere. But if comfort's what you need while on vacation, you probably wouldn't find it at most hostels. People who love the outdoors don't expect there to be comfort on a camping trip - so as I said staying in a hostel is like indoor camping - group spirit, shared facilities, respect for individuality...  It's the main attraction, besides the fact that stays at hostels can be quite inexpensive. The chances of making friends or at least talking to people is also a big plus. 

These other benefits of hostelling more than make up for the lack of comfort. Not to speak of the economy, I can stay 4 nights  at a hostel (at least) for the price of one night in a 'comfortable' hotel. Each traveler is different and has different reasons and purposes for the trip. I am NOT trying to defend hostels or deny any traveler what's important for his / her trip, just asking you recognize that one style of vacation or one kind of hotel/accommodation would not suit everyone.

I've almost never found anyone with whom I could not communicate (although I might not have actually have wanted to communicate (grin). It's like boy scout camp or a sleep-over or a college party (without the noise - hopefully).


I enjoy the camaraderie that's generated when strangers esp. travelers (often single men and women) bunk together - it really is more like camping than a hotel stay - so it's not for everyone. But I really enjoy my stays because I fee free to be myself (more than when I'm home or at work). I feel comfortable being the 'gay' guy who is older, wiser, and knowledgeable, and friendly.
I'm not getting 'hit' on by my roomies and wouldn't really want that (at least on the surface). I just enjoy getting to know people, talking, and sometimes getting to see them live their lives in front of me. Sometimes there is 'sexual' attraction - but typically it's not mutual. Still.. my hostel roommates once all went skinnydipping at the local public beach late one night. (4 men and 2 women).
 

The stay is really what you make out of it.. it can be unfriendly and lonely but normally if you open up to the idea and the possibilities, it can be a great time well spent. Sometimes you make a lot of friends because the group just congeals.

I have written about my 'hostel' stays in my blogs. There is never really anything 'hot' - no sex in the hostel room - but I have certainly had some great fun and got to hang out with some sexy guys and sometimes been naked together.

Next week I'll spend 4 days in a hostel - really looking forward to it.

I also sleep in the nude when I'm staying in youth hostels (as well as everywhere else). I have two other traits as well: I tend to get a hard-on in my sleep (I've been told), and I tend to throw off my blanket if it's too hot.

Youth hostels are also often very tolerant and international places, so if I happen to get up in the nude in the morning and walk over to the window in the buff to see what the weather is like, I guess people just think that's the habit in the country I'm from...

How to find a hostel
Google will help (as you must know). It helps to try Google in various languages, especially the spelling of the city is different between specific languages.

Cologne is very different in German and French.

I found an interesting link (for Germany's hostel/backpackers) ...for example.

Places for a newbie to enjoy gay nude beaches and camping areas

I have been looking around on the internet and have stumbled across male only (gay) clothing optional camping. 90% of the camp grounds i have looked at are BYOB, hence the 21+.

What I was wondering is,  "has anyone on here been to any?" 
Are there good ones, compared to the bad ones?

I will not lie, and say I am educated on these kind of areas, I don't know anything.

I am not really worried about money, but I don't really want to fly across the USA to get to the place. I live in the mid-west. So something in that general area, maybe??? like i said i dont know.

Any input someone can give me will be greatly appreciated, who knows maybe i will find some one to go with. lol. 

One last thing, a lot of the the camp grounds i looked at were gay friendly, I think i want it to be male only. not that I have a problem with lesbians, I just don't want to camp with them. lol (that was sposta be a joke... I'm not really that funny)

14 Feb 2011, 18:59 Ah yes, I realise now, the header is key, ie clothing optional. Actually I was being just a little mischievous. I  do like to get to some fairly remote places, where you can be reasonably assured of not being 'spung', and yes I'm the same - wouldn't quite be brave enough otherwise. Though sometimes it's not really the remoteness that matters. Half an hours walk off the track is often as untrammeled as somewhere that is deep in the forest but on a recognised path. Anyway, it will be interesting to see what others with more experience of organised 'clothing optional' venues come up with.

Canada and some other places. Each August, my partner and I go to the Gay Naturists International Annual Gathering that is at a camp in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. There are usually more than 500 naked guys there for up to 10 days. It is great walking around buck naked for 10 days in the summer.
Give it a try and find out how enjoyable it is.

It is a very nice facility with lots of room for tenting, rv'ing, sleeper cabin rentals and bed and breakfast rooms. It is gay and lesbian, leaning more toward the men. one area is set aside for nude camping. and after about 1am, you are fairly safe to sit around your campfire naked, in at least one other area. Any woman walking back at that time of night, Wants to see naked men.

the other campground is totally men, and clothing optional in almost all areas further back from the entry area. Camp Buckwood, south of Indianapolis, Indiana.

You're obviously more interested in a clothing optional experience and finding a place to do that with other men (hopefully gay males) for an extended period of time - not just a few minutes or hours. 

However, there is one place no too far away from KY (ky_gui = Kentucky Guy ?), but who's living in Iowa. 

Timberfell Lodge is clothing optional resort and campground in the foothills of the Appalachians (about 80 miles east of Knoxville.)

They only have weekend events in the winter (rooms and bunks bed are sometimes half price, but in summer it's a full time gay camping community with a lot of social / sex-related events. I'd say the main type of guy you find there are bears, but that's not all you'll find. It's almost clothing optional everywhere -- although sex acts are forbidden in common areas, there are plenty of dark and deserted spots -- especially at night.

 Campsite are $15 a night plus choice of 2-3 meal plans. There sell beer inside the resort which means you can't bring it,but you can BYOB wine and hard liquor.

There are also other options / places where you can get naked and possibly engage in cruising for sex. Most of the nude beaches around the country have gay cruising areas. Like it or not, that's likely one reason for the crack-down on clothing optional public beaches in quite a few places across the country. 

Being able to camp textile (required clothes) and then walk to a nude beach is a good option - but quite rare except in Europe or at all-gay clothing-optional resorts. 

You can find some at Palm Springs,  Key West, FL, Haulover Beach (Ft Lauderdale, FL,)

Russian River area - 90 miles north west of San Francisco in and around Guerneville.

There is also the possibility of some naughty free skinny dipping while floating down the Russian River. 
 

Baker's Beach in San Francisco (no camping of course but you'll feel it's the great outdoors once you're inside the Golden Gate Park and surrounding recreation areas,  and Provincetown (Cape Cod,Mass) - although there has evidently been a crackdown on public nudity (by anyone) at the famous Herring Cove (state beach) that is 15 minute walking distance from P-town. That's what I used to do. Camp among clothed at night, spend all day among the naked during the day .

There's a commercial campground with easy walking distance of P-town (out on Hwy 6), Dunes' Edge Campground, and you can walk, bike or drive from there to Herring Cove Beach. I've heard that people still get nude at the P-town beach, but they have to be discreet because the park rangers patrol often and hand out tickets (or worse) to naked men in the sand dunes. Most everywhere they are more tolerant of non-sexual nudism, particularly where there are mixed groups. 

Overseas there are many more....

Big Island (Hawaii) Kalani is a gay-owned, and nudity friendly retreat for all types -more focused on spiritual, yoga, and new age trends, the pool area in clothing optional after 4pm , and there is the famous Kehena Beach (also clothing optional and alternative / new age oriented, with a wonderful assortment of naked people from every age and walk of life. 
Kalani has accommodations from camping to villa suites, meal plans or pay as you go are options. 

The world's largest nude beach and sand dudes (gay cruising area) is at Maspalomas (at Playa del Ingles on southern end of the island of Gran Canaria). 
That 's where I'm headed for the 5th time next month (March 15-22).. I'm not camping but staying at a two-hotel hotel for about $30 a night (self-catering), sex city at night and sunshine and naked male skins for days on the beach. 
Men cruising the dunes are aged 40+ and higher so not everybody's preference.

Hawaii Light Flashing Experience

I'm traveling now from August 1 - 27. A few days ago, I was getting a bit of the type of CMNM experience I enjoy.. exposing 'accidentally' or nonchalantly to straight and or younger men.

Here's how it went. I stripped for a shower at a public changing room on Waikiki Beach. I'm not referring to the public restrooms, but to the old Natatorium (outdoor pool stadium) under which is there is the life guard station and male and female dressing room with open showers.  Being under the old stadium bleachers (concrete), the huge room is very long with the open showers visible directly at the opposite end of the room as soon as you enter from a parking lot just outside. 

There were two other adult men there.  I proceeded to get completely undress, laying my boardshorts on a bench. None of the other guys took off their clothes -- which kind of ridiculous if you ask me. One guy was even trying to wash his lower body while wearing cargo pants. It was cool when two Japanese teenagers, obviously tourists, came in and got into the shower.

 Of course, they too kept their swimming trunks on the whole time, and even changed out of them by wrapping a towel around the waist and lowering their trunks, without exposing their butts or genitals. I enjoyed being the only naked guy in the dressing room, and I made sure they had a chance to get some glances of my half

swelled dick and butt. 

By the way, the two boys' guarded self-protective behavior wasn't unusual for Japan. Most men do exactly the same in dressing rooms all over Japan. So they weren't just shy because we three others were adult American males. But since they do 'cover' their privates when they change clothes after swimming and sports, they also do not hesitate to undress/redress in public. As I live in Japan part of the time, I have had many, many chances to see single or groups of Japanese men and young men changing back into or removing their sports clothes. When they do so in groups - like soccer teams,  baseball teams,  they tend to want to 'show off' in front of their male counterparts. So it is often possible to see a lot of boy butt, and semi-exposed pubic hair, and so on.  I have written about the experience else. When I left the old dressing room (no lockers), I saw that one of the teen's mother was waiting just outside the men's changing room, standing beside her parked car. While they might do some things themselves, they don't typically hold it against someone for being a bit weird -- as long as they are NOT members of their own group. 

Later, after going to the Max's Gym (gay sex club), I slept in the nude at my hostel. A nice Korean guy (aged 26) was opposite me. We had a nice conversation sitting there in the room along with our German roomie. Later, I helped him get some detergent for doing his laundry. He seemed grateful and smiled a lot. So when he got up before 6 to get ready to leave for Seoul, I made sure to have the sheet slipped down and my half-erect cock on display. Is that anyway to pay back a friend? (LOL) 

The guys above me was a 22-year old blond German twink. He has a nice body and seems a little bit self-absorbed, but then why shouldn't he be? He slept each night in white knit boxers, and didn't seem to mind parading around the room in them. I doubt it was for my benefit since there were two German girls in the adjoining bunk room, and another German guy about the same age who arrived and took the bed where the Korean dude had been. 

The other German guy was slim and had curly dark hair. I slept naked that night again, but there wasn't much opportunity to show anything to the new arrival. He was friendly enough, but he certainly didn't show any interest. Of course, you never know. He did seem to turn over often enough whenever I moved during the night, but he held the sheets tightly around his body, and never really looked over my way. 

When I was a teenager, I once was invited over to stay with a church friend who was college-age. I was still in high school. I was so turned on that I snuck out of my bed and climbed under his and try to reach up and fondle his dick - which did get erect. It was a complete turn-on for me, and so it makes it difficult to sleep when I'm in the room with a hot guy even now. There ended up being a dozen men who went along for the 90 minute cruise, but I was the only one to get naked. Being a lone traveller, I was happy to have the attention and conversation from a few of the fellow passengers. The waves were too choppy that windy day, so the captain was not able to stop the boat for a swim - a time when a lot of passengers (although none of the crew) might have gotten naked. Too bad.

Tomorrow, I'm going over the Big Island. There are plenty of places to get naked -- primarily, I can be naked 24/7 at my vacation house. Also, there is a the famous clothing optional beach, Kehena Black Sands Beach, not too far away. Actually, it's easier to get naked almost anywhere on the shores around the Big Island - as long as you are discreet.

 On Saturday, I'm picnicking at Kehena and hopefully a few good gay men will join me. On Sunday, it's the weekly Trance Dance Kehena Beach community gathering, which can also be very hot when a bunch of naked straight men (and women) starting getting high on the music and weed. I'll spend the day and night at Kalani which has a clothing optional pool along with outdoor jacuzzi / hot tubs, and sauna. The pool turns naked after 4:00 so it can be very stimulating when hot dads and single dudes venture out from their families and relationships for a little bit of naughtiness. Even if there is no sex, it's still a turn-on to be seen and to see straight and gay men and twinks.

 On Monday and Tuesday, I'm planning on camping out in Kohala and visiting the nude beach at Beach 67 - next to Waialea Beach or Beach 69). I'll keep you updated.. if anything fun happens. Kelly (back in Hawaii after too long away......)

   Just when I had expected to be heading to Kohala for some fun on the nude beach  near Waialea and then later go camping, Hurricane Felicia reared her ugly head. But as she passed through the Hawaiian Island, the storm quickly lost power and became a tropical depression.

 The effect for me was that I decided to stay at Kalani, the oceanside gay friendly resort on the Puna Coast, taking a room for two nights, instead of my usual camping tent.  The place is owned by a gay man (who has started it with his long-time lover), so it's very gay-friendly, but not selectively for gays only. One nice thing is that the pool, sauna and jacuzzi area become clothing optional after 4pm each day.  So I had some nice naked time in the sunshine  - I could even take my Macbook to the pool deck and work online since WiFi is available. 

  While there are clothed people at the pool, and even more who pass by on their way to the dining hall or their rooms, I enjoyed watching a couple of staffers - one was a hottie Hawaiian guy about 25 years old - who climbed up in order to room excess, ripe coconuts and palm fronds from a tall tree next to the pool.  The hottie was that interested in watching - he was too busy working - but I certainly kept my eyes peeled and my cock half-way swelled while he was working up as sweat, wearing nothing but boardshorts. 

On Wednesday, I fly back to Honolulu but was only there the one night so I stayed at a Waikiki hotel on Kuhio.  For whatever reason, they put me into the Penthouse Suite - 3 bedrooms, a small living and a full kitchen - just $60 for 1000 sq ft of space and I could only use one of the many beds.  I found out later that the room normally is booking for $280 a night.
